Nightsun Performance Lighting Presents the New...
The good news
Special Arc or SpARC lamps use an electrical arc, instead of heated filament to convert electrical energy into light. The 6000 K color temperature light produced is a distinctive blueish white. ARC lamps can be up to 3 times more efficient then even the best available halogen incandescent lamps. The H.I.D. lamp used in Nightsun SpARC dual beam lamps consume about 12 watts of power, but produce the equivalent light output of a 30 watt halogen lamp.

The not so good news
Although H.I.D. lamps are far more efficient than incandescent lamps the do have several limitations:

  • H.I.D. lamps are not instant on, they require some time to warm up,
typically reaching full power in less then one minute.
  • The life of H.I.D. lamps decreases with each ignition cycle.
Frequent On/Off/On cycles will degrade the lamp.
  • H.I.D. lamps are very expensive to replace, best results
are achieved if the lamp is turned on at the start of the ride and left on until the end.
This makes H.I.D. lamps impractical for "on demand" high beam use.

The Nightsun DUAL BEAM Solutions:
Combine the best of H.I.D. lamps with the best of incandescent lamps. An H.I.D. low beam flood light is continuously on. This provides the great efficiency and light output of H.I.D. while limiting the effects of frequent lamp ignition. An "instant on" halogen spot light is an "on demand" high beam providing greater center beam power when needed for high speeds. This is exactly the same approach used on high end automobiles such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus.
