Nightsun Background / Corporate Profile
Nightsun's early efforts soon proved, much to the surprise of many veterans of the bicycle business, that there was great demand for high performance lights. Many others have since offered lighting systems that were for the most part combinations of off the shelf parts, i.e. lights from Mopeds, ATV's, Dirt-bikes or outdoor garden lights and typically large heavy lead acid batteries. Most, but not all of these heavy, Inefficient, unreliable, "Frankenstein" systems have come and gone along with their producers. What made Nightsun the industry leader in 1988 and continues today is innovation and investment in appropriate manufacturing technologies combined with the very best available lamps and batteries. Nightsun was the first to build performance lighting systems with custom components designed for the demands of cycling.
This unique combination of sophisticated in house prototyping and manufacturing permits Nightsun, to deliver highly developed products in almost custom quantities at mass production prices. The lighting system designer is faced with how to reliably package the most efficient lamps with the highest capacity battery at the lowest possible weight. If it doesn't add to the light output, or increase the usable runtime or cut the weight it has no place on a Nightsun Product. Nightsun's philosophy is to deliver the absolute highest performance possible within the limits of available technologies. Only the best batteries and lamps are combined with rugged, lightweight housings, mounts and within. These are truly "no compromise" lighting systems, Nightsun's product line is simple, we don't try to be all things to all people. If our product is not the category leader it will not be produced.

Nightsun Performance Lighting has been In operation since 1986. Realizing, in
1986 that the rapidly evolving sport of cycling had far outstripped the bicycle
lighting systems available, Nightsun developed the first systems to combine high
output gas-filled lamps and high capacity Nickel-Cadmium batteries. Where the
best contemporary systems offered no more than 4 watts of output, in 1986
Nightsun's first systems were an order of magnitude greater at 40 watts output.
Nightsun's capabilities include CNC and Conventional machining, EDM and
Precision Grinding in support of Mold Manufacturing, Injection Molding,
Transfer Molding, and Thermoforming. Our growth and expanding capabilities
has required moving from our original 1200 square feet to 2400 square feet In
1991, and our most recent move to our current 8000 square foot company owned
facility In 1995. Current inventories include 5 CNC lathes, 2 CNC Mills,
5 Molding presses and 25 other major machine tools.
